Robber sentenced to 10 years

A 23-year-old man was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for robbery with a weapon or instrument other than a firearm.

The sentence was handed down in the Benoni Regional Court on July 12.

Lucky Mpanza threatened a victim with a knife and robbed her of her cellphone, in Actonville on June 14, 2013.

The Ephes Mamkeli Secondary School pupil, who was robbed on her way back from school, screamed for help during the robbery.

Community members assisted and managed to apprehend the suspect.

Mpanza was then arrested and detained at the Actonville Police Station.

He is now serving his sentence at Modderbee Correctional Services.

Actonville SAPS station commander Col Fredl Jonck thanked the investigating officer, Det WO Jonson Phika Mthethwa for his hard work and dedication.
