Business owner shot dead in Daveyton

Police are investigating a case of business robbery and murder after a tavern owner was gunned down in Daveyton.

The incident occurred in a tavern on July 17 at around 2am.

Daveyton SAPS spokesperson Sgt Constance Moalusi said the tavern owner was busy inside the tavern when an unknown man came in and bought a beer and left.

“After 45 minutes the same man came back with three men and instructed customers to lie down,” said Moalusi.

“According to a witness only one man was armed.”

Moalusi added that when the owner confronted the men, he was shot once on his upper body.

The four men then took off with an undisclosed amount of money and liquor.

Moalusi said the 62-year-old man was declared dead by paramedics on the scene.

No suspects had been arrested at the time of publication.
