SPCA manpower boosted

“A blessing from God.’’

This is how Zamokuhle “Zama” Mabena feels about his job as an inspector at the Benoni SPCA.

Mabena qualified as an inspector in June.

He has always had a love for animals and, in 2013, he started volunteering at the Witbank branch of the society.

They soon saw his potential and asked if he would like to be trained as an SPCA inspector.

Although he was not too familiar with the SPCA back then, he knew he had to take the opportunity to help to save animals.

He then moved to the Randburg SPCA in 2014, to continue his training, and, in 2016, he heard that the Benoni SPCA was looking for an inspector.

He applied and began his training in Benoni in January.

After writing all his exams and completing assignments, he qualified as an inspector in June.

With Zama as part of the team, the Benoni SPCA will benefit greatly from an extra pair of hands.

“Now we have two people to attend to a lot of things out there,” he said.

Mabena said having two inspectors at the organisation will help to better serve Benoni.

He told the City Times it has always been his “dream’’ to work with animals and that, since he was a child, he has been a “huge animal lover’’.
