EMM intern arrested and accused of a stabbing in Benoni Customer Care Centre office

An intern working for the municipality has been arrested for attempted murder, after he allegedly stabbed a fellow intern with a knife yesterday (July 13).

Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) spokesperson Themba Gadebe said the incident happened in the Benoni Customer Care Centre (CCC) manager’s office.

Benoni Customer Care manager, Helen Naidoo, and Etwatwa Customer Care manager Mmabatho Ntlakana, and another intern were in the office.

“He suddenly became violent, pulled out a knife and allegedly stabbed his fellow intern four times,” said Gadebe.

“… The two CCC managers managed to escape.”

Gadebe said the suspect had been interning with the metro for more than a year.

“His unusual behaviour earlier in the day began when he sent a number of emails to senior staff demanding a permanent job,” the spokesperson added.

Gadebe said the suspect was arrested and he was released from his contract with immediate effect.

Gadebe said the victim is currently in a stable condition in the Life the Glynnwood Hospital.

Const Zunickha Essakjee, Benoni SAPS spokesperson, said the 30-year-old suspect has been charged and will appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (July 15) on a charge of attempted murder.

He is currently in the Benoni SAPS holding cells.
