Dogs tied up with ropes in Petit

The Benoni SPCA will open a criminal case against the owner of a Petit venue by the end of the week, after the organisation confiscated three dogs that were tied up with ropes.

The SPCA removed the animals on July 7, after receiving a tip-off.

According to inspector Vicky Finnemore, the dogs were being used for security purposes and were leased to the owner of the venue by a backyard security company.

“The dogs had been living in filthy conditions and were tied up with ropes,” said Finnemore.

“The ropes were so short that one of the animals was unable to access his water bowl.

“Due to the stressful environment, the dogs had been fighting and one of them had sustained open bite wounds on his back.”

The three male canines, a German Shepherd, a cross-German Shepherd and a cross-Staffordshire Terrier are currently in the possession of the SPCA.

Finnemore said the society is still gathering evidence and will open a case once they have all the necessary information.
