Sinomsenbenzi receives computers

The Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora officially handed over 11 computers to the Sinomsebenzi non-profit organisation on Wednesday (July 6).

“The computers were handed over with tables, chairs, Wi-Fi linkages and the server,” said Sinomsebenzi marketing and public relations officer Chanré van der Merwe.

The organisation, which is based in Woburn Avenue, officially opened the computer centre on July 6, but a basic computer training course was held at the centre from June 27.

“This centre will be used to train the youth, mainly those who are unemployed,” said van der Merwe.

“We have five-day courses for those who pay a fee to learn about the basics of Microsoft, email and the Internet.”

The 2015/2016 president of the Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora, Grace van Zyl, said the donations were made for the benefit of the youth.

“We donated these computers to help the youth become computer literate,” van Zyl said.

“In doing so, those in the Sinomsebenzi programme may be equipped with the knowledge so as to look for a job using computers.”

The fee for the course depends on the involvement of the participant in the programme.

“We have two phases,” van der Merwe said.

“Phase one deals with job readiness skills, so we teach the youth how to job hunt.

“Phase two is specific skills which are teaching the participants about computers and various other training.”

Those who participate in phase one pay a R500 fee for phase two, and those who do not, pay a R700 fee for phase two.
