The black-tie dinner also saw the induction of the new Anns president, as well as the 2016/2017 executive teams.
The evening commenced with a standing ovation by the members as the 2016/2017 president, Heidi Tucker, took her seat at the main table.
MC Butch Wilson welcomed the members and continued with the formalities.
The 2015/2016 president, Grace van Zyl, said a new vision will arise through the induction of Tucker.
“My vision was to be a gift to the world and to teach a man how to fish instead of giving fish,” she explained, before reminiscing about the highlights that made her year.
“A project that was reintroduced this year was speech craft,” she said.
“This project gathered Grade 10 pupils from Benoni and taught them how to speak in public.”
She also thanked her team for being her backbone during her reign.
“Our socials kept me sane; we had challenges throughout the year, but our socials helped.”
The Past President’s Badge was presented by Tucker to van Zyl, followed by an address by Tucker.
“Change your words and you will change the world,” is Tucker’s motivation for her reign in the Rotary year.
She took to the stage promising the Benoni Aurora Rotarians that she will be a president who can be counted on.
“I will live up to the ideals of Rotary; I will be at your service and I will make this year unforgettable,” Tucker added.
“My theme this year will be active collaboration.”
She then introduced her new leadership team, which includes Grace van Zyl, Sonja Shear, Angela Norris, Pamela Hull, Angelique Kotze, Denis Brandjes, Kevin Norris, Martin Westcott, Butch Wilson, John Bintcliffe, Gail Wilson, Lynette Romano and Garth Smithard.
The big wooden spoon, which was presented by Kevin Norris, was handed over to the new Stirrer of the Year, Grace van Zyl.
Pamela Hull and Angela Norris were announced as the new Anns presidents.
