Metro begins ‘permanent solution’ for power outages

Plans are underway to stabilise electricity supply to Crystal Park through the replacement of cables.

The upgrade is valued at approximately R8.5-million.

“The City of Ekurhuleni will, from July 8, carry out replacement work of the 7km frequently failing medium voltage underground cables in Crystal Park and surrounding areas,” said metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe.

“A number of streets in the area will be simultaneously dug up during this period to make way for the two week-long replacement work that is expected to stabilise electricity supply in the area.”

The affected roads are Totius, Cloverdene and Rocla roads, Conway, Strathmore and Mullin streets and Nicola Close.

The Crystal Gate Complex on Totius Road will also be affected.

The metro said technicians have monitored outages in Crystal Park and have determined that an upgrade of ageing infrastructure is necessary.
