Two men on the run after attempted hijacking

A case of attempted hijacking was opened at the Benoni Police Station this morning (July 6).

Benoni SAPS media officer Const Zunickha Essakjee said the incident occurred at 6.15 am, on Elston Avenue, Western Extension.

According to the complaint, he drove out of his garage and parked the vehicle on the pavement in order to close the garage.

“Suddenly, a man tapped him on the shoulder, pointed a firearm at him and demanded the car keys,” said Essakjee.

“The other man was already inside the complaint’s car.”

Essakjee said the neighbour witnessed the incident and fired a gunshot.

The two men ran on foot and left a bag with a firearm.

No arrests have been made.
