Second term for Lions president

President of the Benoni Lakes Lions Club, Nick Maré, will aim to build on the success of the previous year, when he leads the club for the year 2016/2017.

Maré was inducted as president for a second year running at a dinner in Kempton Park, on July 2.

The incumbent president listed some of the projects which were undertaken during his previous term:

• Leadership training.

• Handouts of Easter eggs and Christmas cakes to hospital staff over Easter and Christmas.

• Food handouts to the elderly and homeless.

• Sale of Christmas cakes.

• Recycle for Sight.

• Raffles.

The total raised for the year was R130 000, which will be used for projects within the community.

A portion of the money will be used to save for the establishment of a eye clinic.
