Picture yourself doing this?

Are you looking for a new way to be creative and capture precious moments?

The Benoni Camera Club is the platform where you will learn new skills in photography, whether you’re a beginner or a professional photographer.

After about 70 years of the club being in existence, the Benoni Camera Club continues to be a part of Benoni’s rich history.

Currently made up of 45 members, meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every month at the Northfield Methodist Church, at 7pm.

Members pay a fee of R300 at the beginning of the year, which also covers dinner for every meeting.

At each meeting a guest speaker teaches members various photographic techniques.

Regular Photoshop workshops are also conducted.

Members then showcase their skills and are given constructive criticism by a judge according to the different categories rated between one to five stars.

Beginners are judged leniently, but as you advance up the ladder, judging becomes more stringent.

Members go out on weekend outings to Maboneng, The Aloe Farm, car rallies, dog shows and various bird sanctuaries.

When members reach four stars, they are encouraged to enter salons to assess themselves against photographers from clubs across South Africa.

“There is nothing wrong with a little healthy competition, although the club is not about competing,” said Amy Ansell, Benoni Camera Club president organiser.

Set subjects are given to members four times a year to encourage them to try something new and get out of their comfort zones.

The club is a sociable club where people can make new friends and share a creative hobby.

The public is welcome to visit and take part in the meetings before they decide to join.
