Over 20 charities are in need

Although some charities such as the Benoni SPCA have received donations, other charities, like the South African Red Cross Society, have not.

The Benoni City Times appeals to everyone through the annual Benoni City Times Winter Wish List to help local charities.

These charities are still in need of assistance this winter:

Irwin Animal Rescue Centre (Benoni CBD):

• Second-hand goodies to sell at the charity shop to raise funds for dogs.

The Almond Tree Baby Home (Northmead):

• Baby items including formula, wet wipes and nappies.

• General household groceries, blankets and prepaid electricity.

Pug Rescue (Benoni AH):

• Automatic washing powder, fabric softener, dishwashing liquid, Husky with gravy and dry cat food for outreaches.

Life Choices Pregnancy Crisis Centre (Northmead):

• For babies: New born clothing, nappies, wet wipes, nappy sacks, bath, face and burping towels, toiletries, baby sling and nappy bag.

• For mothers: Maternity packs, breast pads, disposable underwear, toiletries.

• Prams and camper cots.

Cornucopia Outreach (Western Extension):

• Groceries including tinned foods, flour, rice, teas and coffees.

• Clothing, furniture and household goods for the charity shop.

Project Feed the Children (Cloverdene and Emaphupheni campuses):

• Stationery items, mattresses, LPG gas, blankets and food items, including tinned food, mealie meal and vegetables

Manger Care Centre (Benoni AH):

• Blankets, building contractors for residential units to cater for more homeless people, and bunk beds or single mattresses.

• Food, ranging from vegetables, soya and maize meal, to tinned food.

• Clothes.

Hospice East Rand (Western Extension):

• New beds, non-perishable food items and cleaning materials for the organisation and to assist patients and their families.

Greater Benoni Child Welfare (Northmead):

• Paint for offices, used items for charity shops and mattresses.

• Blankets and clothing, including jerseys and jackets for adults and children.

• Non-perishable food items for food parcels.

• A microwave.

Colin House (Northmead):

• Groceries: including cereal, maize, rice, spaghetti, frozen vegetables, sugar, tea and coffee, etc.

• Toiletries: including soap, toothpaste, deodorant, toilet paper, etc.

• First aid kit and cleaning materials.

iThemba Rape and Trauma Support Centre (Western Extension):

• Blankets, jackets, socks, hats, gloves, scarves and vegetables for soup.

Benoni SPCA (Lakefield):

• Steel food drums, hosepipes and connections.

• Blankets and cat and dog food, including chewy treats.

• Cleaning chemicals plus brooms, mops and squeegee brooms.

• Small solar geyser.

Siyasiza (Farrarmere):

• Food: including vegetables, rice, samp, mealie meal, starch, poultry, dairy contents and meat.

• Blankets and animal feed.

• Toiletries such as toilet paper, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, razors and facecloths.

Zama Montessori Centre (Putfontein):

• Heaters for the classrooms, windpipe for borehole, fire extinguishers and netball posts.

• Food and clothing for the children when they are at the centre and food parcels to take home.

• Toiletries and cleaning materials.

Kids Haven (Benoni CBD):

• Blankets and adult clothing for men.

• Food parcels or groceries which can be made into food parcels, including mealie meal, rice, tinned food, tea and coffee and toiletries.

• Hangers, lunch boxes and juice bottles.

• Washing machine, bathroom mirrors, door handles, padlocks and kitchen cupboards in need of repair.

• Toiletries, including toothpaste and sanitary pads.

The South African Red Cross Society (Rynfield):

• Socks, blankets and canned food.

Home-Start (Western Extension):

• Winter clothes, baby formula, nappies and non-perishable food items.

Norah’s Drop-In Centre (Daveyton):

• Blankets, heaters, mattresses and non-perishable food items.

Namaqua Dog and Donkey Foundation:

• Donations towards kennel, R250 purchases a kennel and plaque with your name/dedication which will be placed on the kennel, but any donations will help.

Benoni Animal Rescue Centre (Northmead):

• Blankets, dog collars, food for the animals and clothing.
