See to animals’ welfare at the SPCA

At only R300 a month, you could help the Benoni SPCA beef up its manpower to better police the 175km2 area it covers.

The Benoni SPCA has 140 kennels in total, but only 40 are currently sponsored.

Kennel sponsorship is open to members of the public or businesses, who can opt to pay the R300 a month via debit order, cash or an EFT transaction.

This will ensure the benefactor receives a plaque on the kennel with their name on it.

People can specify whether they would like to sponsor one of the 40 cat kennels, or one of the 100 dog kennels.

Diane Wooldridge, co-chairperson of the Benoni SPCA, said the organisation has noted a drop in kennel sponsorships in the past two years.

She said the money generated for the sponsorship is used towards paying staff, purchasing food and paying for vet bills for each specific kennel.

Wooldridge urged the community to open their wallets and adopt a kennel.

“The sponsorships will definitely help with running the place,” she said.

“To police Benoni we need a minimum of four inspectors and, of course, they all come at a price.”

She said the SPCA currently has only one inspector and one trainee inspector and, if all 140 kennels were sponsored, the society could appoint another inspector.

“We desperately need the public’s help; it’s their SPCA,” she added.
