Three suspects arrested with weapons

Three men were arrested in Cloverdene on June 22, for being in possession of guns, ammunition, drugs and a hijacked vehicle.

The EMPD made the arrest on the corner of Putfontein and Nicol roads, at around 3.30pm.

Tryna Maritz, Crystal Park SAPS communications officer, said the EMPD pulled over a red golf after its occupants appeared to be acting suspiciously.

“The members did an enquiry on the vehicle and found out that the vehicle was hijacked in Lenasia South [on June 6],” said Maritz.

“The EMPD members searched the vehicle and found two firearms, one magazine and seven live rounds.

“They also found one packet of CAT, and four cellphones.”

The suspects, aged between 25 and 30, were arrested and detained.

They were charged with being in possession of unlicensed fire arms, possession of an illicit substance and being in possession of a hijacked motor vehicle.

The suspects will appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court.
