Local businessman’s body found in Mpumalanga

The body of Ernest Sardinha (45), who owned a supermarket on Bayley Street, in Farrarmere, was found in a lodge at Malelane, Mpumalanga, on Thursday morning (June 23).

“He was reported missing by his wife on Tuesday night (June 21),” said Benoni Police Station spokesperson, Const Zunickha Essakjee.

Sardinha’s mother, Maria, confirmed to the City Times at 5.30pm on Thursday afternoon that her son had died.

On Tuesday morning, Sardinha dropped his five-year-old son at school and did not return to his home in Bedfordview.

“We received a call from the workers at the lodge who found his body,” said Benoni Police Station spokesperson, Capt Nomsa Sekele.

“The body was identified and confirmed to be Ernest Sardinha, but the cause of death is unknown.”

A close friend of the family said the family is saddened by their loss.

“We do not believe there was any foul play,” said the friend who did not want to be named.

“… And he will be sorely missed.”
