ATM blown up in Rynfield

An ATM was blown up at the Rynfield Terrace Shopping Centre late last night (June 20).

According to WO Ramothakhi Maqabe, Ekurhuleni Central SAPS Cluster spokesperson, the incident happened at 11pm.

He said at least eight shots were fired when the suspects fled, but he could not confirm who they were firing at.

Maqabe said the criminals were driving in a white Mercedes Benz.

No cash was taken and no injuries were reported.

According to a post on the Vulnerable Citizens Support Initiative Facebook page, “three suspects walked to the Standard Bank ATM, inserted plastic explosives which lead to an explosion but failed to take any cash as the design of the mechanism is tamperproof”.
