VIDEO: Actonville boys who helped dog are reunited with furry friend

The three youngsters who were lauded on social media for comforting a dog they thought was pregnant, could not contain their excitement when they were reunited with the canine three days since they last saw it.

Actonville resident Gordon Cook notified the City Times of Jeremiah Padayachy (10), Jaden Padayachy (8, Benoni Primary School) and Jerome Naidoo’s (11, Actonville Primary School) good deeds in a letter to the editor on Monday (June 13).

“On Sunday (June 12) late afternoon I stopped my car alongside three young boys who had surrounded a dog that was lying against a church wall in Actonville, on a very busy street,” Cook said.

“As it turned out the poor animal was heavily pregnant and in pain, which was made worse by the chilly weather.

“These three good-hearted souls brought a blanket from home and provided water and food for the dog.

“They also bought some cheese for it.”

“Brave” after the boys threw a blanket over her.

The Benoni SPCA was called and collected the dog soon after.

In an interview with the City Times, the three said they decided to come to the aid of the dog out of sheer love for animals.

Jerome said he spent R14 of the R30 he received for his birthday recently, to purchase cheese for the animal, which he said was money well spent.

Jaden said they just had to come to the poor animal’s rescue.

“It looked so cute, so I thought I can look after it,” said Jaden.

“I wanted to keep the dog, but then I remembered I live in a flat.

“I wanted her to stay because I like dogs.”

Jaden indicated his interest to see the animal again.

The City Times responded to the call and drove the three boys to the Benoni SPCA on June 15.

Sitting in the back seat of a car, the trio could not contain their excitement, with them wondering whether the dog, which they had named “Brave”, would recognise them or not.

Upon arrival, the three eagerly made their way to the kennel, where they later had the opportunity to engage with their new found friend.

Despite their eagerness to see Brave, the SPCA’s wandering office cat, Winnie, caught their eye.

The afternoon outing was rounded off with a donation of sweets and chocolates, donated by the City Times staff and the Benoni SPCA.

Jaden said he hopes to one day have his own dog, sheep, cat, goat, horse and camel.

His mother, Rishika Padayachy, said this dream will be realised if the family can one day afford to move to a home with a garden.

The SPCA said the dog was not pregnant, but bloated.
