Two nabbed for minibus hijacked in Tshwane

A minibus hijacked in the City of Tshwane was recovered in Etwatwa, along with a firearm, and two suspects were arrested.

The recovery and the arrests took place at 4.10am on June 10.

The Toyota minibus was hijacked in Rietgat, near Soshanguve, on June 9.

“EMPD Equestrian Unit members traced the vehicle to Etwatwa, where two suspects were arrested and an unlicensed 9mm pistol was recovered,” said EMPD spokesperson Lieut-Col Wilfred Kgasago.

“The EMPD members, together with a vehicle tracking company’s personnel, picked up the signal of the hijacked minibus at around 3.50am, on June 10.”

Two male suspects, aged 33 and 39, were arrested.

The pair were charged at the Daveyton Police Station with possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

They are expected to appear in the Daveyton Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 13 June.

The recovered minibus was booked in at the SAPS Van Ryn Deep Pound.
