Robbers abandon load of cigarettes

A case of robbery was opened at the Daveyton Police Station on June 6, after a man driving a British American Tobacco (Bat) vehicle was robbed of a load of cigarettes, an undisclosed amount of money, his uniform and company car.

The incident occurred on Moroleng Street, near the Daveyton Railway Station at around 8.10am.

According to Daveyton SAPS spokesperson Sgt Constance Moalusi, the driver was about to make a delivery at a store in the area, when a Quantum taxi, with three male occupants, parked next to the vehicle.

“One of the robbers took out a spray canister, while another one ordered him to get inside the vehicle while they searched him,” said Moalusi.

They then drove off with the man and dropped him off at an unknown place in Pretoria.

The Bat vehicle, a VW Taguan and the Quantum were later found abandoned, with no sign of the robbers.

Moalusi said the robbers left the boxes of cigarettes at the corner of Rolong and Pulana streets.

Community members were found stealing the boxes and two men were then arrested for being in possession of suspected stolen cigarettes in the area.

They will appear at the Daveyton Magistrate’s Court, soon.
