Blood donors who have shown their commitment by going to clinics for years at end were recently venerated by SANBS.

His wife, Marie said the Springs resident is 75 and only stopped because he recently had two strokes and received a pacemaker. She said he was sad to be forced to stop. Uys was committed to donating for 50 years.
The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) organised an evening of entertainment and dinner to thank the biggest donors at the Benoni, Springs and Brakpan clinics for giving so much of themselves.
Frederick Botha was congratulated on his achievement of 200 blood donations, Willem Roux for his 225th blood donation and Hendrik Uys was recognised for his 250th donation of blood.

Uys was committed to donating for 50 years.
The event was also attended by people who have donated 50, 75, 100, 125, 150 and 175 times respectively as well as youngsters (25 or younger) who have donated at least 20 times.
Guests were honoured with gifts and enjoyed their meals and each other’s company during the evening.
