Apex fire damages two properties

Two businesses sustained damage caused by a fire in Apex this afternoon (June 5).

Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) spokesperson William Ntladi said authorities were notified of the London Street blaze at about 4.30pm.

He said the fire originated from a company that stocks PVC pipes.

Ntladi said the fire gutted a four tonne truck, two trailers and PVC piping inside the building.

The fire is believed to have spread to more PVC piping along the boundary wall of another company.

Ntladi said the flames then spread over a precast wall to four storage containers at the neighbouring business.

“Fire fighters did an excellent job; the damage could have been worse,” said Ntladi.

There were no injuries.

The cause of the blaze will be investigated.
