Animal cruelty case still in the air

It has not yet been decided whether or not to prosecute Benoni Bunny Park workers for animal cruelty.

Lieut Nomsa Sekele, Benoni SAPS spokesperson, told the City Times on Monday (May 30) that the docket is in the hands of the Benoni Magistrate’s Court’s senior public prosecutor, after being sent for consideration on May 25.

On May 2, three employees of the Bunny Park allegedly kicked a rabbit which died later on the same day.

According to Tania Forrest-Smith, a member of the Bunny Park Animals 911 Group, a chicken had to be euthanised on May 2, after it had motor oil poured over it.

This was allegedly done by workers to ward off fleas.

A case of cruelty to animals was opened.
