ATM bombed in Etwatwa

An ATM was bombed this morning (May 17) at a supermarket in Mandela Park, Etwatwa.

The incident occurred at around 3.30am.

According to Etwatwa SAPS acting spokesperson, Capt Pearl van Staad, police were called to attend a business robbery at the supermarket.

“Suddenly, police saw two men at an ATM machine with R5 rifles,” said van Staad.

“The two men then starting firing at the police vehicle and the police fired back.”

Van Staad added that the suspects then ran on foot and, along the way, got into a getaway car.

“Police chased after the men but they managed to get away,” said van Staad.

The suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of money and no injuries were reported.

A case of ATM bombing was opened at the Etwatwa Police Station.
