The accident happened on the west-bound carriageway, just before the Kingsway off-ramp, after 6am.
“We found a man lying in the emergency lane, with both legs broken in different places and with different degrees of severity,” said ER24 spokesperson Kelly Burchell.
The man, who is in his 30s, was hit by a light delivery vehicle.
He was flown to the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital.
