Man arrested for perjury

A Daveyton man, who opened a case of hijacking after drinking heavily, was arrested for perjury.

Daveyton SAPS spokesperson Sgt Constance Moalusi said the man went to the police station and reported “a false hijacking” case.

He first told the police that he was held at gunpoint by two men while at a stop sign along Mocke Street, on Saturday, April 23.

He then changed his story and said he met an unknown man at the Rex Hotel in the CBD and offered the man a lift to Daveyton.

He said as he was driving, the man ordered him to stop the vehicle and he was pushed out of the vehicle.

“The police further interviewed the man and confirmed that when the suspect was allegedly hijacked he was heavily under the influence of alcohol,” said Moalusi.

Moalusi said the police arrested the man for perjury and he is due to appear at the Daveyton Magistrate Court.
