Recovered nappies worth almost R1-m

The hijacked truck that was recovered in Petit on April 14 carried nappies to an estimated value of R850 000.

“One suspect was arrested and all the cargo was recovered,” said EMPD spokesperson Lieut Wilfred Kgasago.

The truck was hijacked on Wednesday evening (April 13).

“Rentrak alerted the EMPD Equestrian Unit members to the location of a truck hijacked earlier, on the N3 freeway, near Villiers,” said Kgasago.

“The signal pointed at the hijacked truck being stationary on the corner of Acorn and Springs roads, Benoni.”

Initially 11 suspects were apprehended, however investigation revealed that only one person was spotted driving the hijacked truck.

“Over and above this, a highly sophisticated signal ‘jammer’ was confiscated,” Kgasago said.
