Survey is legitimate

Rynfield resident Glyn Rees has raised concern about a potential scam that might have been taking place in his suburb.

Rees questioned the validity of questions his neighbours were asked recently about their households and ID numbers, to name a few.

“We haven’t been told anything, and why has it not been Gazetted or advertised in the press?” he asked.

Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) is currently conducting a Community Survey, during the months of March and April 2016.

According to Stats SA, this is a large scale survey that is being carried out between censuses 2011 and 2021.

The purpose of the survey is to collect population and household statistics from municipal, government and private sector levels, to support planning and decision-making.

The survey is being conducted across South Africa, in various communities and areas, with fieldworkers visiting selected homes to complete an electronic questionnaire.

“Residents should comply with the rules of the survey and answer the questions that are asked by the fieldworkers,” said Lesedi Dibakwane, a Stats SA representative.

The survey is not a census and not everyone in the country will be counted.
