It’s a wrap

Morehill resident Ruan Greeff finished second in the World Wrap Masters 2016 competition.

Travelling to Amsterdam, the owner of Wrap My Ride competed against other wrappers last month.

“My wife was my biggest supporter, biggest cheerleader, biggest fan; it was so special,” he said.

The World Wrap Masters is an event whereby wrappers from all over the world showcase their wrapping skills, with different materials and different techniques to obtain the best results.

This involves the use of heat guns, craft knives and other tools that wrappers use during the wrapping process.

Wrappers are given a set time to complete the wrapping of an object such as a helmet, a mannequin or the side of a car or a truck.

Greef qualified to compete in the World Wrap Masters after attending the Federation of European Screen Printers Associations (FESPA) Africa Show in July last year, at Gallagher Estate.

After much encouragement from friends, Greeff entered the competition and was placed in the top three.

Due to the points he obtained during the competition, he was then selected to compete in the World Wrap Masters 2016.

“I always knew about the show but I never thought of entering, because I had nothing to prove to anyone,” Greeff said.

According to Greeff the competition was tough because it was an international event.

Wrappers were given two hours to wrap two doors of an Audi and that would determine the winner.

Factors such as technique, time management and skill were judged when selecting a winner.

Being placed second has secured Greeff an entry into next year’s World Wrap Masters.
