Police come under fire on N12

A suspected hijacker was wounded in a shoot-out with police on the Snake Road off-ramp on the N12 this evening.

Benoni acting Ekurhuleni SAPS Central Cluster commander, Brig Poobalan Subbiah said police officers from Delmas were following a hijacked Toyota Tazz after it was hijacked in Delmas before 8pm.

Benoni Flying Squad members soon joined the chase.

Subbiah said the shoot-out happened on the N12 until Snake Road, where police stopped the driver and passenger on the on-ramp.

The driver was wounded and was transported to hospital in a stable condition, according to police on scene.

Subbiah said no police members are hurt, despite their vehicle coming under fire.

The passenger was arrested.

Police found a firearm on the men which was stolen in Pinetown.

The suspects will be charged with possession of a hijacked motor vehicle, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and attempted murder
