More resources to combat crime

Five police stations have been added the Benoni SAPS cluster, which is now known as the Ekurhuleni SAPS Central Cluster.

The amalgamated stations are Boksburg, Boksburg North, Brakpan, Dalpark and Reiger Park police stations, which join the former Benoni SAPS Cluster stations of Benoni, Crystal Park, Actonville, Putfontein, Daveyton and Etwatwa.

Acting Benoni SAPS cluster commander, Brig Poobalan Subbiah, said these stations were added into the cluster because the provincial cluster offices have been limited to 16.

Subbiah is now the acting cluster commander for the Ekurhuleni SAPS Central Cluster.

“This will help to reduce criminal activities such as drug operations, illegal mining activities, hijackings, aggravated robberies and gangsterism, as there will be members who will be focusing directly with those crimes,” said Subbiah.

“We will also conduct bigger operations and have more police visibility in all the areas.”

Subbiah added that there will also be more resources available to them, to be effective in serving the community.

The Benoni Task Team will now be known as the Ekurhuleni Central Task Team and their team leader is Capt Alie van den Berg.

Five members from the Brakpan SAPS have been added into the task team.

Subbiah said more members from other stations will be included in the team as time goes.

“The task team members have proven their capabilities and they can only get better with more members added,” he said.

Subbiah added that the SAPS will continue working closely with the Community Policing Forum (CPF) and anyone else who has complaint or information to share with the police.
