Chanley thanks you

Former Miss Benoni 2014, Chanley Wong, may not have won an award at the South African Film and Television Awards (Safta), but she is grateful to Benonians for their support.

“To Benoni, my hometown, thank you,” Wong said.

“I couldn’t thank everyone enough.

“It’s such a blessing to know I have people behind me.

“It pushes and motivates me that much more.”

The 23-year-old was nominated in the category “Best Television Presenter”, for the show Craze Sistahood on e.tv.

The Saftas took place on March 20, at the Gallagher Estate Convention Centre, in Midrand, and winners were decided based on votes.

“Katlego Maboe won the award,” she said.

“He is a worthy winner.

“Katlego is a multi-talented individual and he displayed that on the night of the awards, as he was the Master of Ceremonies (MC).”

Although she did not win, Wong was not a sore loser.

“I was there because my talent was recognised,” she said.

“I was just extremely excited.

“The awards evening was absolutely beautiful.”

And not winning one of these awards is certainly not stopping the young blood from believing in herself.

“Being nominated for a Safta helps me to realise that I’m doing something right,” she said.

“To be recognised for something you love doing is one of the greatest rewards.”

She is grateful to Benoni and those who supported her from afar.

“I received social media messages from the viewers and my peers,” she said.

“I even received an email from the chairperson of the South African Chinese Community, saying they are behind me, which was really special.”
