Chocolate is the key

Bake a cake based on taste and texture, is what the owner of Cherrylane Gourmet Café, David Wright said.

Wright, who has been married to Chantel, a baker, for 25 years, considers himself to have ample experience in cake tasting.

So be prepared fellow bakers, because his expectations as one of the Benoni City Times Mother’s Day Cake Bake competition judges on May 5 are going to be high.

“Looking good to eat is great,” Wright said.

“But, it is the sensation it creates when you bite into the treat that will make the difference.”

If you are already stressed about impressing him, fear not, because he has provided some safety tips on baking.

“Chocolate cakes need to be dense and sweet,” he said.

“A totally decadent taste sensation,

“While white cakes need to be light, fluffy and have interesting flavours to tantalise your taste buds,

“Zesty lemon or the woody smoky flavours of vanilla will impress.”

He was also kind enough to share what tickles his taste buds.

“Chocolate!” he said.

The Benoni City Times Cake Bake competition will be held at Cherrylane Gourmet Café at the Lifestyle Centre in Northmead.

The café, which has been around for almost four years, is known for their quality food, exceptional service and hosting space for up to 100 people.
