Benoni receives wheelie bins

A roll-out of 240-litre wheelie bins is set to take place in different parts of Benoni.

According to Ward 28 Clr Mary Goby, the roll-out began in Kingsway on the weekend of March 11.

Reportedly 6 000 bins will be distributed per week by the Ekurhuleni Metro Municipality (EMM).

It is anticipated that the Benoni roll-out could be concluded before June 30.

The EMM will issue each household with one bin.

Additional bins can be requested and will be levied accordingly.

Approximately 78 000 bins will be distributed in the Benoni area, at a total cost of R31,2-million.

Ward 23 Clr Andre du Plessis encouraged residents to consider marking their bins with their house numbers to avoid the bins being stolen or misplaced.

Residents are urged to only use these bins for placing their refuse.
