Pretoria Road work restarted

Work has restarted on Pretoria Road, two weeks after it was initially scheduled to begin.

The work was delayed by a week as the contractor reportedly waited for plans from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM).

The project was again delayed the following week.

Clr Stefanie Kruger (Ward 24) said the new contractor was supposed to have started on March 9, but rain forced the work to be postponed.

Kruger said that on March 14 the contractor worked through the weekend, to “make up for lost time”.

She added that all the work on Pretoria Road is expected to be completed within two months and a week.

“They (the new contracted company) know what they are doing; they’re also busy with the work on the Putfontein Road off-ramp on the N12, which looks good so far,” said Kruger.

The previous contractor was allegedly dismissed owing to a missed deadline to finish the construction work on Pretoria Road.

At the time of the dismissal, in January, around 200m of work still had to be done on the arterial road, leaving it essentially untarred until March.

EMM was approached for comment, but none had been received at the time of going to press.
