Your vote counts for Safta awards

Former Miss Benoni Chanley Wong needs you.

Wong, who lives in Farrarmere and is a television presenter for the show Craze Sistahood, on e.tv, has been nominated for the South Africa Film and Television Awards (SAFTA) in the category, “Best Television Presenter”.

“This is a competition that requires the votes of the public to win,” Wong said.

The 23-year-old sadded that she is honoured to be considered a worthy candidate for the awards.

The awards ceremony, which will be held on March 20, at Gallagher Estate, in Midrand, was established to honour, celebrate and promote the excellence of South African film and television talent and productions.

The proud Benonian will be competing against TV presenters Johan Stemmet, Danine Naidoo, Serai Tshepo, Seate, Pabi Moloi, Katlego Maboe Show, Riaan Cruywagen, Dingaan Mokebe Ka Khumalo, Vele Manenje Siyakholwa, Katlego and Boitumelo Osei Tutu for the award.

“I also want to make a change in the world, this is why I enjoy presenting on Sistahood,” she said.

According to the beauty, the show allows her the opportunity to encourage, inspire and motivate the youth.

“We take turns to go on an eKasi Tour, which is a tour that allows us to meet and greet with our fans,” she said.

“I went on the tour on the weekend (March 5 and 6), and looking at how many youth listen to my advice or watch our show, encourages me to be a role model to them.”

During her reign as Miss Benoni 2014, she visited the youth in Actonville to motivate them to strive for their dreams.

She also has a heart for the homeless and less fortunate.

“I have visited the Haven Care Centre at the Benoni Agricultural Holdings,” she said.

“I donated clothing, food and money.

During my reign, we visited and helped them to paint.”

Not only does she have a heart for the people of Benoni, she is also a family woman.

“The reason I entered Miss Benoni is because my sister, Leanne Wong, was Miss Benoni in 2000, so I followed her example,” she said.

The TV personality asked Benoni to help her because she is one of them.

“I need Benoni to stand with me so we can bring this award home,” she said.
