Domestic worker tied up during robbery

A domestic worker was tied up and covered with a blanket during a house robbery.

The incident occurred on March 14 at Cypress Street, Northmead.

Benoni SAPS spokesperson, Lieut Nomsa Sekele, said it is alleged that the domestic worker was alone in the house and later went into the garden.

“Suddenly, she was approached by a man who threatened her to go back inside the house and not to make any noise,” said Sekele.

“As they went inside, another man also went into the house.”

Sekele said the woman was then tied up and covered with a blanket while the men searched the home.

The intruders fled with three firearms, jewellery and private documents.

After the men left the scene, the woman managed to untie herself and called for help.

It is unclear how the culprits gained entry onto the property.

A case of house robbery was opened at the Benoni Police Station.

No injuries were reported and no arrests made.

Sekele added that domestic workers should be more alert of their surrounding, especially when they are alone.

“People who commit house robberies always monitor the place or area before they commit the crime.”
