Water leak expected to be fully repaired tomorrow

Water should be restored to several Benoni suburbs by the early hours of tomorrow morning (March 12).

Themba Gadebe, spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM), told the City Times at 4.35pm that repairs are being conducted on a water pipe on the corner of Fifth and North roads, Cloverdene.

The fix should be complete by 1am tomorrow morning.

Gadebe said the repair is being made about 10m from a repair completed on the same pipeline on Monday.

In the meantime, Crystal Park, Cloverdene and Van Ryn Small Holdings are without water.

Nerise Gloster, who lives in Crystal Park, said she is upset that the EMM did not inform residents that there would be a water interruption today.

Gadebe said it is not always possible to inform residents speedily, as technicians, in this case, prioritised repairing leaks before communicating the message back to the EMM.

The spokesperson said residents were notified of water interruptions in the area last week.

Water tankers will be stationed at the following points throughout the repair:

Crystal Park Police Station;
Crystal Gate Spar;
Crystal Park Primary School;
One mobile water tanker around the plots.
