Seven men rob store in Benoni CBD

Seven men robbed a clothing store in the Benoni CBD this afternoon (March 10).

The Pep store on the corner of Kemston Avenue and Voortrekker Street was robbed at around 4.30pm.

“Seven suspects entered the shop, of which four were armed,” said Benoni SAPS spokesperson Lieut Nomsa Sekele.

“They pointed firearms at the staff.”

Sekele said a security guard in the shop was robbed of his Blackberry cellphone and wallet, which contained an undisclosed amount of money.

The criminals also made off with an undisclosed amount of money from the cashier.

A grey Nissan Hardbody bakkie was used as a getaway vehicle.

No shots were fired and no injuries were reported.

A case of business robbery has been opened.
