Water pressure remains low in suburbs

There will be no water supply in parts of Crystal Park, Cloverdene and Van Ryn Small Holdings today and tomorrow (March 6).

“Some areas will still experience low water pressure or no water supply,” said Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) Spokesperson, Themba Gadebe.

Several residents commented on the City Times Facebook page, saying their water was off this morning (March 6).

Gadebe said no cuts to the entire area were planned and full restoration of the supply was expected by Tuesday (March 8).

“The 800mm water supply pipeline was temporarily repaired yesterday (March 5) while awaiting the delivery of the correct fittings,” said Gadebe.

The pipe could not be permanently repaired as the wrong size fittings were received for the pipe.

Previously, Clr Stefanie Kruger (Ward 24) said the correct size fittings would only arrive on Monday (March 7), though this could not be confirmed by EMM.

According to Gadebe, water tankers will be stationed at the following points:

  • Crystal Park Police Station;
  • Crystal Gate Spar;
  • Crystal Park Primary School;
  • One mobile water tanker around the plots.

“EMM would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused.”

According to Gerda Delport, a Crystal Park resident, the water supply at her home was weak on Saturday (March 5) and non-existent the following morning.

“There was never a water tanker at Crystal Park Police station and they said there would be one,” Delport said.

“I think this is getting too much for us as a family; I can’t do the washing, or do dishes.”

Kruger urged residents to fill buckets and bottles with water, to prepare for low pressure or a coming outage.
