UPDATE: Wrong clamp slows down pipe repair

“After waiting two weeks for a clamp; they got the wrong size.”

Clr Stefanie Kruger (Ward 24) said the correct size clamp to repair a main 800mm water pipe would only arrive on Monday (March 7).

Themba Gadebe, Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) spokesperson could not confirm whether the wrong size clamp had been received by the team on site, in Fifth Road, Van Ryn Small Holdings.

“We are still on site working on the pipe replacement and anticipate to finish the work at midnight,” Gadebe said.

Kruger corroborated that water would return to the areas on March 4, but the pipe could only be permanently repaired when the correct clamp arrived.

The repair left Cloverdene and Crystal Park without a water supply from 8pm on March 3 until at least 3.45pm on Friday (March 4).

Kruger expressed impatience upon hearing the wrong size clamp was received for the main supply pipe.

She said the EMM team on site would fit the replacement pipe using the seal used for the past ten days.

Gadebe said he would investigate Kruger’s claim regarding the clamp.
