Pretoria Road work restarted

A new contractor has been appointed to resume work on the unfinished section of Pretoria Road.

This is according to Clr Stefanie Kruger (Ward 24), who made the announcement on March 1, two months after the dismissal by Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) of the previous contractor.

“It’s with great pleasure that I can confirm that a new contractor has been appointed and will be on site as soon as tomorrow (March 2) morning,” said Kruger.

“Thanks to everyone who signed the Pretoria Road petition and supported me in the fight to get us the services we deserve.”

The previous contractor was allegedly dismissed owing to a missed deadline to finish the construction work on Pretoria Road.

At the time of the dismissal, in January, around 200m of work still had to be done on the arterial road, leaving it essentially un-tarred for that period.

According to EMM, in early February the process to procure a new contractor was under way and the road was due to be maintained in the interim.

EMM was approached for comment regarding the appointment of the new contractor, but none had been received at the time of publication.
