Water supply back, says EMM

Water is said to have been restored to parts of Cloverdene and Crystal Park on Tuesday (February 23), after a second pipe burst in the area within two days.

EMM spokesperson Themba Gadebe said the second pipe fracture, which reportedly happened at around 11.30am, was repaired at around 10pm.

He said an 800mm pipe burst, not a 500mm pipe as previously reported, but added that the first pipe to burst a day earlier has a diameter 500mm.

Gadebe said the pipes are situated close to each other, near the corner of Fifth and North roads, in Van Ryn Small Holdings.

Although residents reported to the City Times that Morehill had also been left dry on both days, Gadebe couldn’t confirm which other areas may have been affected by either pipe being repaired.

He said the 800mm pipe likely burst due to high pressure while its smaller counterpart was being repaired on Monday, as the flow had to be diverted from the pipe worked on at the time.
