Second pipe burst in two days breaks water supply

Cloverdene and Crystal Park were left without a water supply for the second time in two days, after another main pipe burst, on Tuesday, February 23.

The 500mm pipe, situated on the corner of Fifth and North roads, in Van Ryn Small Holdings, reportedly burst at around 11.30am.

“The department’s water teams are working on the problem and mobilising water tankers,” Themba Gadebe, Ekurhuleni metro spokesperson said.

“We hope to have the supply restored as soon as possible.

“The municipality wishes to apologise for any inconvenience caused by the water interruption.

“Please remember to close all water taps on your property in case the event of early reinstatement of supply.”

Gadebe said two water tankers were deployed to the affected areas.

He could not confirm when the water supply would be restored.

During the water supply cut on Monday, the City Times received reports of the supply break extending to Morehill.

The metro said it was possible, but was unaware of other areas being affected at the time of publication.
