Benoni Ladies Forum require help

Helping the community is something on which the women from the Benoni Ladies Forum (BLF) pride themselves.

The BLF is a registered non-profit organisation that was started in 2006.

The members rely on sponsors and volunteers to help them with supplies and food, but they mostly use their own money to cover expenses.

The forum was started by a group of mothers who all had a common interest in helping the less fortunate in the Actonville community.

Being in existence for 10 years, the women have been serving and helping different communities within Benoni.

“Whenever there is a need we assist in any way we can,” said Amina Bhabha, chairperson of the forum.

The 12 members host one event every month, throughout the year.

One of the recent projects in which they have participated is #OperationHydrate, where water was collected and taken to areas that are struggling with drought.

Some of their other projects include taking underprivileged children and grannies out on an excursion to a local park or restaurant, to give them an opportunity to get away from their surroundings for a few hours.

Being affiliated to the South African National Muslim Women’s Forum (SANMWF), the women do their best to contribute to any need that may arise.

“In our culture those who help the less fortunate will be rewarded,” said Hawa Sibda, vice-chairperson of the forum.

“We take them out because they can’t afford to go out.

“You should see the children’s faces when they have their first burger, it is so heartwarming to experience.”
