Accident leaves three critically injured

A collision between a taxi and a car at the New Modder and Snake roads intersection left at least nine people injured and three in a critical condition on Sunday morning (February 21).

ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing said the paramedics were notified just after the incident took place at 5am.

“A local truck company saw the accident and called our paramedics to report it,” said Bodasing.

“When ER24 paramedics and other services arrived on scene, they found the driver of the car trapped in the vehicle.”

Bodasing said the car contained a driver and another person.

“Fire and rescue services extricated the woman (driver) from the vehicle,” said Bodasing.

“She was assessed and found to be in a critical condition.

“She was treated and airlifted to hospital by a private emergency service,” Bodasing said.

Upon further assessment of the accident, the paramedics found that the taxi driver and one of his passengers were also in a critical condition.

“The three who were critical were taken to different hospitals, Sunshine and Union Hospital, but the authorities who were on scene for further investigation will know more,” Bodasing added.

Some of the passengers were found lying on the road near the taxi, while others were walking around on scene.

“Other patients who sustained minor to moderate injuries were treated and transported to local hospitals for further medical care,” Bodasing said.
