SPCA dismissal appeal set for March

The appeal hearing of the Benoni SPCA’s former manager is expected to start in early March.

After being dismissed from the society in November 2015, Adele Makings (branch manager) and Reneé Rossolimos (inspector) approached the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) to appeal the results of the SPCA’s internal hearings.

Makings and Rossolimos were suspended from the organisation in September, pending internal investigations into unconfirmed allegations lodged against them.

Shelley Owens, co-chairperson of the Benoni SPCA, said Makings’ CCMA hearing is scheduled for early March, although she could not confirm an exact date.

At the time of publication, no date had been set for Rossolimos’s hearing to start.

Owens said she could not reveal the nature of the allegations that were levelled against Makings and Rossolimos, until the proceedings were completed.

Vicky Finnemore was brought in as interim manager of the facility in October, last year.
