No ambition to retire after 50 years

“Law is a queen; you never fail to serve,” said Michael Shneier (76).

The sole owner of Michael J Shneier Attorneys celebrated his practice’s 50 years of existence with a cocktail evening at his offices, in Elston Avenue, on February 1.

Colleagues, friends and family gathered at the offices to honour Shneier, who started his practice in Cranbourne Avenue, at Leroma House, in 1966.

After all these years, he has no intention of retiring.

“I looked up the word retire and it means to withdraw, and I’m not withdrawing from anything,” he said.

Margaret Amdur, who has been working with Shneier for 40 years, sang his praises.

“It has been very eventful working with him; we learn and grew together in this business,” said Amdur.

“He is a wonderful boss to me, we have had ups and downs, at times business was bad, but we didn’t give up.

“We are like a family, he has very good staff, who take care of the business when he is away.”

Shneier describes his career as an exciting life to live.

“It has been wonderful to practice amongst special colleagues,” he said.

“Benoni is a wonderful town.”

The family-orientated business is focused on helping the ”small people” within the community.

Being part of the Attorneys Association, Shneier said he learned a lot from other attorneys.

“We were taught that, in Benoni, we fight in peace,” he laughingly said.

His wife, Mary, also shared her thoughts on her husband.

“I am very proud of him; I love him, he is the best thing next to cottage cheese,” she said.
