Pedestrian critical after accident

A 26-year-old pedestrian was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition following an accident in Northmead on Wednesday, January 27.

The accident happened on the corner of Fifth Avenue and Second Street, at around 6pm.

ER24 paramedic Grant Barrett said the male was knocked down by a VW Golf.

“The victim was knocked down and we found him at the intersection in a critical condition,” said Barrett.

“We initiated treatment and thereafter got assistance from Netcare 911.”

The man was flown to Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital.

Authorities were on scene to investigate the incident.
