Bees attack taxi occupants in Putfontein

A swarm of bees stung a taxi driver and eight of his passengers, who are aged between five and seven, in Putfontein on January 26.

The incident happened on the corner of Putfontein Road and Jones Street, at about 4.25pm.

Netcare 911 spokesperson, Chris Botha, said the bees flew in through the vehicle’s windows.

“Paramedics worked fervently to stabilise the children and found that a child and adult were critically injured while the other children were in a serious condition,” said Botha.

“After paramedics treated the injured at the scene, they transported them to a local hospital for the care that they required.”

Botha said bee swarms are active this time of the year.

He said people must close their vehicle windows when they notice bees.
