No injuries after Northmead Square shooting

Shots were fired at the Northmead Square this morning as four burglars ran away when CMS responded to a crime in progress.

Benoni SAPS spokesperson Lieut Nomsa Sekele said four males gained entry into Kodak Express at around 4.45am.

“The security guard was patrolling and saw four people inside the shop,” said Sekele.

“He pressed the panic button and CMS responded quickly.”

Sekele said the burglars opened fire on CMS responders.

No injuries have been reported.

Darren Lustig, the owner of Kodak Express Northmead Square, said a large portion of goods stolen from his shop was found in the parking lot.

Northmead Square thanked the security company for their response time.

“Management would like to thank the security team for their vigilance and raising the alarm, as well as CMS for their quick response.”

“We are greatful that there were no injuries and that only minimal stock was taken.”

A case of business burglary has been opened.

No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information can contact the Benoni Police Station on 011 747 0053.

In a separate incident, the door to Kodak Express Northmead Square was damaged on New Year’s eve, but no entry was gained.
